How Does Cytgord Cymru Decide Policy?

Say you're disabled. And you're worried about the upcoming cuts. Many disabled people are! In the other parties, though, they have to wait around for the decision to get made. They might have to wait for conference. Or they have to wait for people who aren't disabled to get informed well enough by the people who are to finally make the right sorts of decisions - if they're lucky.

But not in our party. The Assembly for Disabled People just... does it. They get together. They decide when they do that. They decide how they do it. They talk it out. The policy-minded among them make suggestions. Policies emerge. The party has policies. Nobody argues with them because there is nobody to argue.

So goes it for the Assembly for the Unemployed, or the Assembly for LGBTQIA+ People. Nothing about us without us is the gist of it. After all, you wouldn't want someone else down the pub deciding what pint you got. That's down to you, even if they're getting the round in. Same idea here.

Who Gets To Take Part In These Assemblies?

Just the people who should - and want to. So if you want to, you can. If you're disabled, then you can participate in the Assembly for Disabled People even if you're not a party member. But we would love to have you.

How Do Assemblies Make Decisions, If Everyone Is Involved? Isn't That, Uh, Noisy?

By consensus. And only occasionally noisy...

Sometimes it's really simple and easy, too.

Like if you're deciding whether to all have a cuppa - no need for drama, just ask! If we all say yes then go ahead and make one for everyone. But if it's a bit more complex (say: we're out of sugar and someone has to go buy more but we can't decide who) and the chat goes on...

Then we hold a meeting about it! Sometimes more than one, to get everyone's voice heard that wants heard.

If everyone agrees at the end of that meeting, great. Go for it! That's consensus.

If not, then that's where the membership directly gets to decide: by voting on it through a STAR ballot. This is just a scored balloting system that helps the assembly not only decide, but understand how they feel, collectively, about the decision.

This can inform future decisions, too.

Have Your Say!

We're new. That means everything is up for grabs. We might steal some stuff from Harmony Party UK but we might not. It's up to us and nobody else and we don't need permission.

If you want to have your say - whether as a participant or a member - let us know and we'll gather you into the loop.

Please let us know which areas of policy you are interested in via the checkboxes below. This will inform us on how to keep you informed on which meetings and events on policy we run. We look forward to developing a strong policy base for an independence, radical Wales together!

Sylwch fod y wefan hon yn dal i gael ei diweddaru, am ei fersiwn Cymraeg a Saesneg. Mae'r ddwy fersiwn yn cael ei chreu gan wirfoddolwyr, ac mae pobl yn gweithio at gyflymder ei hunan. Yn enwedig fel plaid wleidyddol sydd wedi'i sefydlu gan bobl efo anableddau, rydant yn gofyn am eich amynedd ar hyn o bryd - ond mae'r gwefan Cymraeg yn ar y ffordd.

Please note that this website is under construction, in parallel, in both Cymraeg and English. Both versions are being undertaken by different volunteers and different people work at different speeds. Especially as a party founded by disabled people, we ask in these very early days for your patience: but the Cymraeg language website is coming.
